NBA Lockout Hurts Economy

This video talks about how the NBA lockout is affecting many small businesses in areas where games would normally be played. Many restaurants and bars near the stadiums expect revenues to be much higher or spike up on game nights but with no games their bottom lines have dropped. Who do the authors implicitly blame for the lockout (if any)? This reveals how cyclical these R&B (restaurant and beverage) businesses are, how intimately the sales of these businesses are connected to the sports game season. The video shows part of an interview with the owner of a local bar who talks about how he schedules employees based on game days but without the games no extra employees are needed and this hurts the employees. Furthermore, it also talks about how some employees basically live off of the tips they receive on the busy game nights. How do the authors make their argument truthful and/or authentic? Who do you think is the ideal audience the authors are trying to reach? These employees aren’t getting scheduled as much, and when they are they won’t be receiving as much money in tips which is extremely important to them. Do you believe the decline in income of a few bar workers can adversely affect the economy of this country? Why or why not?
